Events guide
How to join events, and how to run one as an organizer - from sign-up to the stream overlay.
For players
Find an event
All upcoming and past events are listed under Events. Each card shows the game, the date, the status and how many players have signed up. Public events can be opened without signing in. To join and to see who is taking part, sign in with Discord.
An event moves through these statuses:
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Planning | The event is announced, the date may still be open. You can join. |
| Scheduled | Date and time are fixed. You can join until the sign-up deadline. |
| Live | The event is running. Matches and points update live. |
| Finished | Results are final and count for the Hall of fame. |
| Cancelled | The event will not take place. |
Join
Open the event and click Join. If you would rather only step in when someone is missing, click Join as substitute.
- When the event has a player limit and it is full, Join waitlist puts you on the waitlist. As soon as a place becomes free you move up automatically, in the order people joined.
- You can Leave as long as sign-up is open (after a confirmation). If the event is full, joining again puts you on the waitlist.
- Add to calendar (the calendar icon) downloads the event for your calendar app.
Find people
The Participants tab has a search for names and BattleTags (press / to jump into it). The role
chips above it show how many players want each role and how many picked it first; click one to show
only those players. Your own card is marked with You.
Role preferences
For games with roles (e.g. Overwatch: Tank, Damage, Support), a Your role preferences card appears once you have joined. Click the roles you want to play in order of preference - first click is your favourite. Organizers use this when building the teams. Reset clears your choice.
Your rank (Overwatch)
For Overwatch events the organizers balance the teams with your competitive rank. Instead of telling them, connect Battle.net once - on your Profile or with Connect in the Your rank card of the event:
- The site reads your current rank per role (Tank, Damage, Support) from your public Overwatch career profile - PC ranks, or console ranks if you have no PC rank. Nobody has to type it in.
- When you join an Overwatch event, your rank is shared with the organizers automatically. Update in the Your rank card (or the refresh button on your profile) reads it again; this works until the event goes live.
- Only you and the organizers see your rank; organizers also see your BattleTag.
- Disconnect on your profile deletes your BattleTag and ranks, also from events that have not started yet.
Teams, matches and points
When the organizers publish the teams, the Teams, Matches and Leaderboard tabs show up on the event page. Everything updates live, no need to reload.
- Matches are grouped into stages (e.g. "Group A", "Playoffs") and rounds.
- The Leaderboard ranks teams by points, then score difference, then scored points. Click How points work for the exact rules of this event.
- After the event, your results count towards the Hall of fame (points, wins, titles).
For organizers
Admins create events and choose the organizers. Organizers (and admins) can edit the event and manage participants, teams, matches and points. Everything an organizer can do is behind the buttons in the page header and the ⋯ menus next to each item.
Create and set up an event
Admins create an event with New event on the events page. It starts as a Draft, which only admins and organizers can see. Click Edit event (pencil icon) to fill in:
- Title, Slug (the web address), Description, Location, Logo
- Game - sets the roles, the team composition, the rank scale and the map pool. Pick Generic for anything else.
- Starts at, Ends at, Sign-up deadline, Max players, Team size
- Visibility - Public events can be seen by everyone, Restricted ones only by members with the required Discord role.
- Availability poll - links a TE-Treff poll to find a date while the event is in Planning.
- Season - the season the event counts for in the Hall of fame.
- Points per win, Per draw, Per loss - points booked for finished matches.
- Discord webhook and Post every match result to Discord.
When everything is ready, set the Status to Planning or Scheduled. That makes the event visible and announces it on Discord.
Manage participants
Open the ⋯ menu next to a participant to (the same menu on the Participants and Teams tabs):
- Confirm someone from the waitlist (also beyond the player limit),
- pick their Team, the role they Play as in it and Make captain,
- change what they are Signed up as (Player, Substitute, Caster, Staff) - someone who becomes a player while the event is full goes to the waitlist,
- Make organizer / Remove organizer (admins),
- Copy BattleTag, e.g. to invite them to a custom game,
- Reset ranks to Battle.net after you changed a connected player's ranks by hand,
- Remove from team or Remove from event.
Ranks (or ratings) are changed where they are shown: click a role tile on a participant card, or the role chip in a team, and pick the rank; it saves right away. The Battle.net mark next to a name shows the BattleTag; click it to copy it.
Add (above the list) signs up a member yourself. Filter the list by Without team or Without rank and sort it by name or rank to find who still needs attention (players without Battle.net are marked on their cards). Lowering Max players moves the latest players back to the waitlist; organizers keep their place.
Build teams
On the Teams tab:
- Add team creates teams. The team's ⋯ menu has Edit (name, colour, logo).
- Put players into teams: Add player at the bottom of a team searches by name or BattleTag (players from other teams can be moved this way too), or drag and drop them from the Without team list next to the teams, which you can search and filter by the role they want. Team in the participant's ⋯ menu works as well.
- Each member shows the role they play with their rank in it and whether they wished for it (1st, 2nd, off-role). Click it to switch the role or fix the rank.
- Each team shows its average rank and the average per role, so you see a strong tank facing a weak one even when the averages match. Unranked counts members without a rank for their role.
- Switch Published on when the teams are final. Until then only organizers see them.
Balance teams automatically
Balance teams creates a proposal from the players' skill and role preferences:
- Set the players' skill first (click the ranks). For Overwatch you pick a rank and division (e.g. Diamond 3) per role; other games use a number.
- Overwatch players with Battle.net connected already have their ranks (from Battle.net in the tooltip). They follow the player's updates until the event goes live. If you change them by hand, your values stay; Reset to Battle.net (when you click a rank, or in the participant's ⋯ menu) switches back.
- The balancer spreads the skill evenly over the teams, also per role (tank against tank, ...), and gives players the roles they prefer. A player counts with the rank of the role they are assigned.
- Captains stay in their team. Unrated players count as average.
- The proposal opens right away. It shows the gap between the strongest and the weakest team, overall and per role, next to the gap of the current teams, and who changes team. Try another for a different proposal, Apply to take it over.
Matches
A stage is a phase of the event, e.g. "Group A", "Group B" or "Playoffs". Matches with the same stage name are shown together, grouped into rounds. A simple event can leave the stage empty.
- Generate matches creates a whole stage at once:
- Round robin - every team plays every other team (optionally twice).
- Single elimination - a bracket in seeding order. Winners move on to the next match automatically; bracket matches cannot end in a draw.
- With First match at, the matches get start times one after another (Minutes per match apart, round by round). It starts at the event start, or after the last scheduled match (e.g. playoffs after the groups). Leave it empty for no times.
- Add match (in the stage's ⋯ menu or on the Matches tab) adds a single match.
- Click a match to edit teams, result with maps (Overwatch maps can be picked from the current map pool), time, stage, round and best of. Setting it to Finished asks first, as it books the points. Players who click a match see its details and map scores.
- Swap sides (in the match's ⋯ menu) flips the two teams, including scores, if they are the wrong way round.
- Delete stage removes all matches of a stage together with their points.
Points and leaderboard
Points are booked automatically when a match is finished: win, draw and loss points as set in the event. Bracket matches only decide who moves on and book no points.
On the Leaderboard tab, Add points books extra points for a team or a single player, e.g. for a quiz round. Negative points work as a penalty. Every booking is listed and can be deleted again.
Run the event live
Set the status to Live when you start. The Control panel (button in the page header) is made for running the event and the stream:
- On stream - the match shown on the overlays. Auto takes the first live match. Go live, Finish match (asks first: it books the points and posts the result) and Reopen sit next to its status.
- Score with + / − or the keys Q / A (left team) and P / L (right team). With Track maps (key N for the next map), the big numbers count maps won and the current map has its own score below. The current map counts once you start the next map or finish the match, so a lead on a map that is still being played is not shown as a win (also not on the stream). A finished match is read-only there; Reopen it to change its score.
- Up next - upcoming matches: Put on stream shows one on the overlays (e.g. before it starts); start it with Go live.
- Ticker - scrolling text, e.g. for sponsors or announcements.
- Countdown - a timer with a label ("Starting soon"): Start for 5–30 minutes or Start until a fixed time, both start right away; Stop ends it.
Stream overlays for OBS
The Overlays card lists ready-made overlays: Scoreboard, Versus, Bracket, Standings, Schedule, Casters, Ticker and Countdown.
- Click Copy … link next to an overlay.
- In OBS, add a Browser source with that URL, size 1920 × 1080.
- The background is transparent and the overlay updates live while you score.
Finish the event
Set the status to Finished when the last match is done. The champion and top 3 are posted to Discord, and the results count towards the Hall of fame (the winner of the bracket final, or the leader of the standings, gets the title).
Discord
Announcements go to the event's Discord webhook (or the server default for public events): when the event is announced, goes live and finishes, when teams are published and - unless switched off - for every match result. Announce on Discord in the ⋯ menu posts the event again by hand. Drafts are never posted.
